a personal style blog by Lauren Pfieffer

About

Hi there!
My name is Lauren Pfieffer and I'm the blogger behind Passing Whimsies. I started this blog in 2009 as a sophomore in high school because I needed an outlet for self expression and to document my personal style. Nine years later, the essence of this blog is still the same for me. It's a place where I candidly talk about my life's triumphs and trials, as well as, showing my ever evolving style. I was born and raised in Ohio and graduated from Kent State University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fashion Merchandising and a minor in Fashion Media. I'm moved to  Brooklyn, New York, shortly after and work full-time in social media.

FAQ

Who takes your photos? I do actually! I've always taken them with a self timer on my camera and a tripod.

What kind of camera do you use? Currently I shoot with a Canon Rebel T3 and a 50mm 1.8 lens.

Do you edit your photos? I do some color and brightness tweaking with Adobe photoshop on my photos, so yes! For Instagram, I do a more vintage-style edit. You can learn more about that here

How tall are you? I am just under 5'3.

Where do you draw inspiration from? I get a lot of ideas for color palettes and the feel of an outfit from nature. Since I live in Ohio, I'm heavily influenced by the distinctive seasons we have here. Also, living in Italy for four months really changed how I view style and dress personally. I look to a lot of European fashion bloggers.

What can you do with a degree in fashion? A lot more than you would think. There are hundreds of jobs that you can look into that utilize a fashion degree. Common ones are buyers, visual merchandisers, social media managers, PR managers, product developers,  fashion assistants, event planning, and working in publishing.

How can I get an internship in fashion? Apply, apply, apply and then apply some more.  Never give up on your search and also always keep checking back in with the firms that you apply to. Be persistent.
