Hi everyone!

I have a fun little post today where I partnered up with my long time blogging friend Ashley of Bramblewood Fashion to style up a striped t-shirt! The striped t-shirt is the ONE thing I would tell anyone wanting to build their wardrobe up that they need. I brought mine to Italy for four months, and it was probably my most worn item. Also, I find it's the most versatile piece I own and the different ways Ashely and I styled our shirts show you that! You can go for a very monochromatic look with black and an accent color for a more chic, classic look. Or, you can do what Ashley did and take the striped t up a notch and mix it with patterns for a pretty bohemian vibe!

I've even mixed my striped shirt with polka dots, and houndstooth: the remixes are endless! Unfortunately this shirt of mine is getting pretty worn out and I'm on the look for a new, perfect striped t...but I won't give up until I find one because it really is my favorite essential!

My friend Ashley has a lovely fashion/beauty blog where she posts about modest fashion and beauty blurbs! She works at Ulta and I LOVED her recent post on money saving tricks there. Check out her blog if you'd fancy! x

With much love, Lauren.

Two New Videos Up!

Hey everyone!

Here is a video I put up the other night just chatting with you all + wanting to know what kind of videos you want to see from me as I begin to get more into Youtube! I'd love to hear your suggestions over on my channel :)

And then this morning I just uploaded my second go at an outfit of the day video again. I'm getting better I think! Is there a way that I can improve the viewing quality of the videos though? They seem to be so fuzzy and I'm not quite sure how to fix that because I'm filming on my nice camera! Any suggestions are welcome :)

With much love, Lauren.

1970's Dream.

1970's Floral Maxi Skirt: Thrifted.
White Blouse, Stone Necklace: Forever21.
Hat: c/o OASAP.
Lipstick in MAC's Chatterbox.

Hello everyone!

This is a little bit different style than I'm used to sporting but I actually loved this outfit because...THE SKIRT. I mentioned in a previous post that I found this gorgeous 1970's skirt at Goodwill the other day. I was really back and forth on getting it; it's not super practical and I wasn't sure if it would be a good piece to take with me to NYC (two requirements when buying clothes right now) but it just struck such a chord with me I couldn't pass it up. I mean, it was only like $3.50 but that's a lot for me, ha. I know, I am cheap. I will admit it. I think why I love it so much is that it reminds me of a piece I used to have in my wardrobe that I loved TO DEATH. It was this little dress/shirt here from Forever21. I remember seeing this online and begging my parents to buy it for me because for me, if I had this I would make all the popular girls jealous at the time in high school. (Yeah, I know, really immature thinking. Thank goodness for growing up). My parents didn't want to get it for me because it was so short, but I told them I would make it work; so they let me buy it. I remember getting it and realizing they were right-- there was no way I could wear this dress anywhere without my bum showing, but I loved it so much that I found other ways to wear it. I got rid of the dress a few years back and kind of wish I'd kept it, just for sentimental reasons. It was one of the first items I bought when I was starting out in fashion that felt like 'me'

Well, now that I've bored you all with that blast from the past, I think I'll end the post here! Enough nostalgic rambling for the day. x

Pressing Into You.

Deer Dress, Black Hat: c/o OASAP.
Green Utility Jacket: Thrifted.
Lip Color: Lip pencil from Kiko Cosmetic's in 712

Why hello there! ♥

Happy Sunday to you all! It was a pretty good one for me if I do say so myself. I got up early to the sun shining through the blinds of my window (isn't that one of the best feelings...?) and got ready for church this morning. Service was really great from the music to the sermon and I left feeling very rejuvenated and uplifted.

Then I ran around Kent for a bit because I do this app called Shopkick if you haven't heard of it! I've been doing it for about a month or so and have been so obsessed. It's an app that lets you redeem free gift cards just for going in your every day stores and scanning items! So, let's say I go into wal-mart. I'll get a certain amount of kick points just for going in the door (when I would have already been going there anyways!). And then, they have items around the store that companies want to make sure are being stocked, so they have customers scan them. This week it was the new People Magazine, Allergy Medicine, Body Wash, and some greeting cards. Easy stuff--kind of like a scavenger hunt! The points add up and you can get points for referring friends, as well. I am SO close to a $25 gift card to Sephora so I have been working hard to get there! If you'd like to try out Shopkick for yourself (this isn't sponsored: I just really like the app!) then you can download here, or if you want to do it on your phone, go to the link of my instagram profile (@passingwhimsies) and you can download it from there! Let me know if you all like it :)

After that, I got together with my friend Courtney who has been disciplining me throughout this semester on a weekly basis. If you're unfamiliar with disciplining, it's a Christian term just meaning she talks with me every week about things I'm going through, encourages me, and we read the bible together! It's been really nice and she's a wonderful friend to have.

Other than all that, took some outfit photos for an upcoming post, took a little nap, and then worked on homework. Looking forward to tackling this coming week with strength! I only have one full week of classes left and then one of finals...and that's it for me! My family and I booked our flights for NYC for the 12th of May so that's coming up SO soon. It'll be my little sister's first time flying (not technically, because we brought her home on a plane from China but she doesn't remember) and she's quite excited. Ahh, to be young again and excited about flying, ha! x

Youtube Video: Spring OOTD.

Hello everyone!

I'm excited/nervous to bring to you my first edited youtube video! I've been wanting to get more into Youtube for awhile now, and randomly filmed some shots of this outfit from this other day. The quality isn't amazing because I had my fixed lens + I filmed both horizontally and vertically. But despite all my amateur skills I really enjoyed putting this video together and have already filmed two more things to put into videos for you all!

Hope you enjoy-- looking forward to getting more into this form of media! x

With much love, Lauren.

P.S. I've done a few other videos in the past that you can check out on my channel here!

Say Cheese.

Lavender Sweater: c/o Lulu*s (old).
White Blouse: Forever21.
Light Wash Jeans: Aeropostale.
Boater Hat, Pearl Necklace, Pink Loafers: Thrifted.
Camera: Fuji Intax Polaroid Camera.

Hello everyone ♥

Snapped these outfit photos at dusk this evening. Since it got a little cooler this week here in Ohio, I pulled on some of my favorite jeans and did a sweater + blouse combo to keep more snug. Sorry I've been wearing this little boater hat so much lately-- it just has my heart! I've searched for the perfect one for years and now that I have it, it hardly leaves my head (except on windy days when it goes flying, ha).

I took some 'me' time this evening and went to the thrift store to check things out. A few weeks ago I was there and saw this pretty pink, marbleized cross with a silver Jesus on it that I really liked, but for some reason didn't buy it. It was still there tonight and the more I looked at it, the more I loved it so I decided to buy it. It's not like it was big bucks or anything, just $2.50, but it makes my heart so happy to look at and I'm excited to hang it in my apartment. I also got a maxi floral skirt that's from the 1970's in the most perfect floral print ever! I've owned a lot of floral prints over the years, but this one tops them all. Excited to style it up and show you all soon!

This morning I spoke on a panel to perspective Kent State Fashion School students about studying away in Italy. It was really nice to encourage others about this and tell them about my personal experience. Although it definitely wasn't perfect, four months out I've begun to recall it fondly and really cherish my memories. Talking about my semester abroad this morning and seeing the excitement on all those faces gave me terrible nostalgia for my time there. But it does excite me to think that NYC in a few weeks (!) is kind of like a second Florence, so I am hoping to do a better job of appreciating/cherishing my time there (no matter how hard things get).

After a long week of various stresses, I settled down tonight with some DQ and tuned into the Bruce Jenner Special that aired. Did you all watch it,too? I commend Bruce so much for her bravery and tenacity to come out as who she is. I cannot imagine living a life knowing you were someone else on the inside. It's a great watch to learn more about the transgender community if you're interested, and also just a very touching moment of a REAL human who has overcome outstanding obstacles. Had me tearing up quite a bit throughout! x

In Reversal.

Light Blue Lace Dress, Boots, Beret: Thrifted.
Pink Coat: c/o OASAP.

Hello everyone ♥

Bummed today because these photos are very misleading-- spring did a little reversal trick on me and it's quite cold + windy + spitting snow here. I nearly froze while taking these photos, and the ache of my stiff hands after finishing is not something I miss at all. Spring, please come back!

I've really been enjoying blogging again lately and being able to post nearly every day. I don't think I'll ever be able to get back up to the 1-2 times I used to post EVERY day like in the beginnings of my blog, but it's nice to do around 5 posts a week for me. It helps keep my mind busy and flow my energy into something creative. Those are two things that have been important to me lately. When I'm struggling with something in my life, I like to stay really busy because I will lament about the struggle and get really down about it. I've been doing very well actually and I'm super proud of myself, but there are times where I do catch my heart feeling heavy.

I think it's going to be really good for me to go to New York directly after school is done this year so I don't have that awkward lull back in my hometown. My family and I will be driving to NYC around the 12th of May because my internship starts the 18th. Coming up quickly, I know! That leaves me only two days at home between finals and leaving for NYC to pack, say goodbyes, and get things done. But like I said, I like it this way and I think it will be great to jump into this new chapter of my life right away. I am getting excited and anxious to start-- it is one of the biggest moments of my life! x

April 2015 Ipsy Glam Bag.

Back in December my parents had gotten me a subscription to  Glam Bag (formally known as Ipsy) for Christmas. I've been on the waiting list forever, but this month I finally got through and received my first bag! I think monthly beauty subscriptions are super fun and a great way to try out new products. Here is what I got in this month's bag, " Beautifully Bohemian".

Overall, I was really impressed with the presentation of the package and the bad the items came in. It's a pretty woven makeup bag that's lined on the inside and super roomy. This will just be a great item to use while traveling!

I've been wanting to try out theBalm for awhile now and so pleased with this fullsize sample eye shadow. The packaging is just so darling and cheeky + not to mention the shade is gorgeous and buttery smooth.

I remember trying this dry shampoo a few years ago when I was subscribed to Birchbox and really liked it. I don't wash my hair every day, so around my bang area it can get a bit greasy with me constantly touching them. This takes away all that with one simple spray!

I'm not a huge nailpolish person in general because my OCD has me always picking at my nails if I have it on, or cringing at the sight of any little chip. I like the idea of nailpolish, but it's hard to get it to work for me! So when I saw this, I wasn't that excited and the hot pink color didn't thrill me (I'm more of a neutrals gal). But I applied it tonight, just one coat and was blown away. It is so opaque and doesn't need a million coats, plus this is the fastest drying stuff I've ever tried. When I swatched the color on my hand and went to wipe it off minutes later, it wouldn't budge! Still, after washing my hands multiple times this evening it's there. Also, my nails didn't chip when I was cleaning the dishes which is a huge shocker because usually they always do. I can deal with the color for this amazing formula!

Even more than not being a nail polish person, I'm definitely not a lip gloss person. And sadly, this lip gloss combines all the things I hate. It was the one disappointing product of the bag for me. I found it sticky, gloopy, and just a horrid, unwearable color.

My final item was this concealer which I was excited to try since I have bad under eye circles. I got the tarte cc concealer cream a few weeks back and wanted to see how this compared. I like this concealer and feel like it is very creamy, very easy to apply. It didn't crease or cake on me and did a pretty good coverage job. I feel like it's better suited for dark spots/blemishes though versus undereye circles. Maybe Tarte's undereye concealer is just a holy grail for me, but this just didn't cover the circles as much as I would have liked.

Swatches of the lip gloss, eyeshadow, and nail polish

And, that's it! I am looking forward to next month's Glam bag to try out some products and find some new favorites :) Do you all get the Glam bag? If so, what did you think of this month's selection?

With much love, Lauren.
